The neighbourhood

Living in Avenida

Living here means the centre is on foot rather than on a timetable. Baixa, Chiado and Príncipe Real are all fifteen to twenty minutes away walking, and the side streets climbing towards Príncipe Real hold some of the city's better small restaurants.

Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa sits just above the avenue, which makes this a practical base for its students, and the blue line at Avenida station covers everything the walk does not.

It is a grown-up part of town (theatres, embassies, the Cinemateca) and it stays lively into the evening without ever being a nightlife district.
