Where to live if you study at IST

Most students at Técnico end up looking in a tight radius around the Alameda campus, because the alternative is a commute that eats an hour of every day. That radius is exactly where AMS is concentrated: Alameda itself, and Arroios immediately to the west along Avenida Almirante Reis.

A room in either neighbourhood puts you ten to fifteen minutes from the campus gates on foot. No transport pass, no timetable, and the option of going home between a morning lecture and an afternoon lab, which matters more than it sounds when your timetable has gaps in it.

Both neighbourhoods sit on the metro too, so the rest of the city stays open to you. Alameda has the green and red lines; Arroios has the green. The airport is a direct ride from Alameda with no changes, which is worth knowing before your first trip home.
