Do I need a Portuguese guarantor to rent as a student?

Not with AMS. The ordinary Lisbon rental market usually asks for a Portuguese guarantor, several months of deposit and a year-long lease. We ask for none of those, the booking is completed online from wherever you are.

Can I book for a single semester?

Yes. Semester and academic-year contracts are standard, which covers Erasmus and exchange placements without paying for months you are not in the country.
