The neighbourhood
Living in Alameda
If you are studying at IST, this is the neighbourhood to be in, most of our Alameda homes are a ten to fifteen minute walk from the campus gates, which means no commute, no transport pass and the option of going home between lectures. It is the single largest concentration of AMS rooms in the city.
Beyond the university, Alameda is a genuinely liveable, unpretentious part of Lisbon. The Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques park runs down the middle with its monumental fountain, there is a covered market at Arroios nearby, and the streets around Avenida Almirante Reis are full of tascas, bakeries and late-opening supermarkets. Rents here are noticeably kinder than in the tourist centre.
Two metro lines meet at Alameda station (the green line down to Baixa and the river, the red line out to the airport and east to Parque das Nações) so the rest of the city is fifteen minutes away without ever changing twice.
